About O'Brien & Partners


O’Brien & Partners has been established for 28 years and enjoys working with and supporting some of the most well known businesses in Wales.

The practice was recently acquired by firm partners Lewis Van Emden and Lyn Griffiths in 2008 and their Abergavenny office has now adopted the O’Brien & Partners branding and name.  Lyn, Lewis and their team firmly believed in client service and with a very similar culture to O’Brien & Partners, clients have experienced positive benefits from the new ownership.

Lewis Van Emden


Lewis qualified as a Chartered Accountant over 18 years ago, and became a partner in a well known Abergavenny based practice in 2007. Training at Deloittes in London, he has a good understanding of the local market place and needs of Welsh businesses due to the fact that he acquired his post qualification experience in South East Wales, holding senior management and partner positions in Newport, Abergavenny and Cardiff based practices. Lewis works with SMEs, and oversees the provision of a full range of accountancy and business support services. Indicative of the proactive and client focused stance that Lewis takes with the enterprises that he works with is the fact that he encourages business owners to take advantage of the progressive, leading edge tax planning schemes that O’Brien & Partners have access to, and champions the highly successful Profit Improvement Programme.


Lyn Griffiths


Lyn Griffiths started working in the profession in 1972, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979. Joining an international accountancy practice in 1980 he worked overseas for several years before rejoining a Welsh based multi sited practice and becoming a partner in 1986. Lyn’s forte is within farming and allied industries, with extensive knowledge in both of these areas that is brought into play with the clients that he deals with. As a Welsh speaking accountant it allows clients to choose the medium with which they wish to converse and correspond – a rarity in the profession! 

As part of Lyn’s commitment to reinvesting back into the local community he holds the post of Treasurer with Abergavenny Rotary Club.
    Now led by partners Lewis Van Emden and Lyn Griffiths, the firm focuses on client service and the provision of fresh, forward thinking solutions.

Ty Hafan – the family hospice for young lives


Tŷ Hafan offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people and is dedicated to improving the quality of life of their whole family.

In 2009 O’Brien & Partners are delighted to have launched their support of this organisation. 

Tŷ Hafan, The Children's Hospice in Wales, is a registered charity and was established entirely from public donations. It now costs £2.5 million a year to run the hospice and all but 17% (Government funding) is raised through donors and supporters.
